A $3M Grant and Chicano Art Center

This week we started off by covering a fresh funding of $3M that CSUSB received as a grant from NSA to build cyber security talent in the country. The university will execute this project in collaboration with the Riverside Community College District’s LAUNCH Apprenticeship Network, San Bernardino County Schools, and the company Tomorrow’s Talent.

We then wrote about the new art center coming to the Riverside Museum. It is called The Cheech Marin Center. The Chicano Art will open in May 2022.

Stem Cell Science

Stem cell scientists are at the forefront of latest research and innovation around this field. We reported that UC Riverside obtained $5M to train stem cell scientists in the region. Commenting on this funding, Prue Talbot, Director of UCR’s Stem Cell Center said that the university plans to increase the number and diversity of highly qualified doctoral students and postdoctoral level scientists trained in stem cell biology in the California workforce and to provide trainees with the communication skills they need to be successful.

Purchase Manager’s Index (PMI)

We also wrote about a new report published by the Institute of Applied Research at CSUSB. The report sheds light on the PMI (Purchase Manager’s Index) of the last month and observes that manufacturing growth has induced economic recovery in the Inland Empire.

Inland Empire Startups

A startup called Smartbot360 caters to the AI-conversational technology for the healthcare industry. The startup is a UCR-spin-off.

Lastly, we wrote about a new defense technology startup called StarNav that got its SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) funding and contracts from Navy, Army, and the Airforce.
