The City of Moreno Valley obtained a $100,000 donation from Amazon for the City Mayor’s MoVaLEARNS program. This generous donation will fund a full year of the MoVaLEARNS program through the Moreno Valley Community Foundation.
UCR Scientists Get $1.5M Emergency Grant to Tackle Florida’s Citrus Greening Disease
You’d hardly come across news regarding emergency funds being released for tackling a disease that impacts plants. However, this is exactly what happened when University of Florida, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service provided $1.5 Million in an emergency funding to UCR scientists to tackle Citrus Greening Disease — also known as Huanglongbing, or HLB.
The diseases has threatened Florida’s citrus produce, the state that grows 80% of America’s fresh citrus.
Bank of America Loads Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship with $200K Grant
The Bank of America has loaded the Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship (IECE) at Cal State San Bernardino with $200K grant to help underserved Black, indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) businesses in the Inland Empire. The grant is intended to help approximately 250 business owners — a majority of which are owned by Black, indigenous and people of color. CSUSB’s IECE estimates that it will help these 250 business owners to create or sustain about 650 jobs and create an economic impact of nearly $4 million.
UCR Arts Gives $50K Grants for Arts Projects award to Support a Solo Exhibition Opening in Fall 2022
UCR ARTS has an approved $50,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support “Christina Fernandez: Multiple Exposures,” an upcoming exhibition featuring the work of Los Angeles-based photographer Christina Fernandez.
“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support arts projects like this one from UCR ARTS that help support the community’s creative economy,” UCR ARTS is among the arts organizations nationwide that are using the arts as a source of strength, a path to well-being, and providing access and opportunity for people to connect and find joy through the arts”, said Ann Eilers, NEA Acting Chair.
California’s Solar Energy Consumers Resist CA Public Utilities Commission’s Decision
The decision by CA Public Utilities Commission’s decision to set the annual solar penalty fee at $684 for Californians and 80% reduction in the credit solar consumers has not gone well with energy consumers in the State of California. “California could soon end the perks it has been giving to residents with rooftop solar on their homes, even as it pledges to move entirely to clean electricity, wrote Justine Calma in Verge.
