Chaffey College InTech Center at Cherry Ave, Fontana, CA, will provide workforce development training to companies in the Inland Empire to support job creation and retention. To financially support this program, California’s Employment Training Panel (ETP) will give $881K to Chaffey College’s InTech Center. The program is performance-based, providing funds for trainees who successfully complete training and are retained in well-paying jobs for a specific period of time.

Selection Criteria

To be eligible for funding reimbursement, employers have to:

• Be subject to the Unemployment Insurance (UI) tax and the Employment Training Tax
• Have one or more full-time employees (working a minimum of 35 hours per week)

However, there are certain conditions and SOPs that employers also need to fulfill. These include:

• Employer is committed to employees attending class and completing all the training.
• Employees must remain employed 90 days after all training is completed.
• Employers pay their employees a certain minimum wage at the completion of the 90 day retention period. The minimum wage in our area for calendar year 2020 is $17.70. Employer paid health benefits can be included in the calculation of the minimum wage.
• Employer pays employee’s wages while employees attend

Chaffey College Grant

We previously reported about a grant of $2.9M that Chaffey College got for building a welding training facility at Fontana. We wrote that:

Assemblyman Freddie Rodriguez, D-Pomona secured a $2.9M state funding for Chaffey College to build a welding training facility. It will be built at Chaffey College’s InTech Center at Fontana.

“The new facility will be able to provide a permanent home for the welding class. Now it is an outdoor set up and tear down structure and doesn’t lend itself for use during inclement weather,” said Debbie Smith, administrator for the Chaffey College Industrial Technical Learning Center. The InTech Center is situated on the grounds of California Steel Industries.

Chaffey College has been getting grants and fundings to support workforce training needs in the region.

Apart from automation, cyber security, and welding job trainings, Chaffey College also imparts technical skills related to masonry and contraction.

The college trains students from the Inland Empire in its Masonry and Construction Careers Boot Camp in Fontana InTech Center. The center is a vital facility, for the college to generate a workforce pipeline for business and industry in the Inland Empire region.  

The college also obtained a $1.3M grant for the youth of Inland Empire.
