Startempire Wire Weekly Round up

Here’s our Weekly Wire Round Up. This week we covered news related to Series A funding of a startup from Riverside, partnerships, smart city implementations, and Amazon’s entry into the Inland Empire via its Amazon Fresh brand.

Series A Funding

We reported on the $10M Series A funding of WurkNow, a Riverside-based workforce management software. Now, the startup is hiring more local talent and people from the Inland Empire who can help the company grow.

And, if you are a startup looking to raise your first serious dollars, meaning a Series A ($3M+), look no further than SoCal Venture Pipeline, a program by that pairs up companies seeking Series A funding with the right VCs. It’s built on the pattern of  β€œConnect“, a program in San Diego that generated $650 million in Series A funding for startups since 2015.

Amazon Fresh: Yet Another Investment by the Seattle-based e-Commerce Giant in the Inland Empire

Amazon stepped up its investments in the Inland Empire as a drone enthusiast filmed the company’s upcoming Amazon Fresh market in Murrieta Town Center in the Riverside county. Since Amazon employs more than 40K people in the Inland Empire, it is termed as the largest private employer with multiple fulfillment centers, two air hubs, and now an Amazon Fresh store.

Ontario: A Smart City in the Making

We covered City of Ontario’s journey towards becoming a leading smart technology city of the country. In a newly built planned residential community called New Haven, the city has allowed Brookfield Residential to operate drone-based deliveries of shopping and recreation items items (up to 40 lbs), robot carts that follow you, next generation smart streetlights with built-in lighting, phone charging, environmental sensors, Wi-Fi, and 5G.

Masters of Science in Entrepreneurship and Innovation

School of Entrepreneurship at Cal State San Bernardino is offering a $5K scholarship to one (1) student who is among the first 10 students to apply and are accepted to the Masters of Science in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MSEI) program’s 2nd cohort for Fall 2021. Check out the article and see how the program goes beyond generic courses typically associated to MBA.

The ratio of courses in this program is 80% courses related to entrepreneurship and only 20% as general courses.

Lastly, we shared EDA’s $900K grant awarded to UCR’S Office of Technology Partnerships under CARES Act to aid Small Businesses recovery.
